A massive, 28,000 gallon spill of phosphoric acid from Cargill's Gardinier Plant, caused siginificant pollution and fish kills in the Alafia River. The Citizens for Alafia River Preservation (CARP) were active in insisting on environmental protections. This document is from a CARP meeting shortly after the spill and contains details of the accident and community reaction.

Note the names of the streets on this official plan, are different than the names of the streets found on the plan in the Woodruffe collection (dated March, 1920) in the Riverview - Photo section of this web site. In the later plan, state names were used as street...

In the later plan, state names were used as street names, whereas flowers were used in the earlier plan. The location of this planned subdivision, north of the Alafia River, is legally registered as the W 1/2 and SW 1/4 of the NE 1/2 of Section 17 in Township 30S/Range 20E.

Frandorson Properties was created as a Michigan corporation in 1965, so it is likely that this brochure was created after 1965. It was in 1965 that Francis Corr reacquired Apollo Beach following a a protracted foreclosure proceeding against Flora Sun Corporation of Miami.

Deed - Hamilton Disston Land Purchase 1881.

In 1881 Hamilton Disston negotiated with the Internal Improvement Fund of Florida to purchase, outright from the State, four million acres of overflowed lands at 25 cents an acre. Some of that land was in South County. On page 15 of this deed, find specific references to the location in Townships 30 and 31. Almost all of Township 31S, Range 19E is included in the purchase, which encompasses lands north of Ruskin, east of Tampa Bay in what is today's Apollo Beach area.
