I remember being bussed to school from Adamsville (Ruskin) to Milton on 22nd St. and the original Blake High School on Spruce in Tampa. My family moved from Palmetto where I was born to Ruskin to work the fields. It was my Mother, Father; brothers- Robert who passed away November, 2013, Abe John "AJ", Alvin, William, Nelson, Roosevelt, Randolph; and me. Lillie Mae Jenkins Liverpool lived in "The Elsberry Quarters" Ruskin farm property for Black workers, from approximately 1956 to 1968. Before living in "The Quarters" Lillie and her family lived in Palmetto. She was born in Tampa in 1950. Simmons Ranch was located south of Big Bend Road, north of I-75, and west of US 301, in land that is likely, today, more properly Riverview. However, the ranch was extensive and likely located in larger sections of Hillsborough County. Today, that land is behind St. Joseph's Hospital on Big Bend Road.
