This map shows the western portions of South County below the Alafia River to about where today's Big Bend Road is today. Note the location of Gibsonton, Gardensville and Adamsville. It is also interesting to note that today's US 301 is label State Route 5 and US 41. Today's US 41 is labeled SR 23 and US 541. US 541 was commissioned in 1932, a few years after the US route system was established, and it existed for only about 20 years. US 541 essentially functioned as a long business loop off...

Mr. Albert "Georgia Boy" Harris, former farm worker at Elsberry Farm in the mid 1940s. Mr. Harris lived on the farm with his wife (Josephine and their children; Robert, Abe, Alvin, Alberta, William, Nelson, Roosevelt and Randolph.) They lived in the area designated for Black workers called "The Quarters". Mr. Harris was the "Black Forman" the only black forman, Mr. Jones was the white forman. US 541 and US 41.

This 1940 map by Rand McNally shows that US 541 is today's US 41 and that US 41 originally was the name for today's US 301. It was not until the 1950s that US 541 was eliminated and US 41 was moved onto the former US 541 south of Tampa; US 301 ran along what had been US 41.

Ms. Inez Elizabeth Dolby a greatly revered community leader established schools for Blacks only. The schools were built in Adamsville, Sun City, Wimauma and Ruskin. This picture of Ms. Dolby was taken from a Tampa Tribune (Tampa Bay Life Section Sunday 6/8/2003) article, Ms. Dolby was 90 years old at the time. Ms. Dolby passed away at the blessed age of 96 and remains a stalwart figure as part of Ruskin area history. (Picture courtesy Alberta Harris)
