In some of the interviews of the children (some of which are contained in the site, you will find references to their time in this hotel. Miller's first goal was to create a town in the vicinity of the hotel, which he intended to call Venoa, was abandoned because of the difficult terrain at the end of Shell Point. At that point, he began searching for land on properties owned an abandoned lumber camp which included lands along the Little Manatee River where Ruskin is now located.

Mr. Dickman was chairman of that group from 1965 to the end of his service. The Budget Commissions was a powerful commission that decided on budgetary allocations for the county. Dickman was much admired as a strong proponent of fiscally conservative policies although some of those positions, today, would be considered insensitive towards the poor in the name of that fiscal conservativeness. Researchers can quite easily follow his work on the Commission by reviewing large numbers of news articles written about the Commission in Tampa papers.

Riverview Bridge circa 1901.
-
Abstract/Description
-
This is earliest known picture of the "new" Riverview Bridge that connected the Tampa Road with Peru. Constructed in 1900-1902 using sections of the old Lafayette Street Bridge in Tampa, which was torn down in the late 1880s or early 1890s. The Tampa Road ended at the south end of the bridge at Riverview where a sandy, difficult to traverse road continued south towards Parrish.
